The Hershey Company has joined other major chocolate manufacturers in signing a new cocoa pledge to give Ivorian farmers a fair deal and ensure a sustainable supply.
The Abidjan Cocoa Declaration was signed last week at the World Cocoa Conference in the Ivory Coast by Mondelez International, Mars, Ferrero and Nestlé.
ConfectioneryNews.com can confirm that Hershey has also made the pledge.
Jeff Beckman, head corporate communications at Hershey told this site: “…Hershey is indeed joining this important commitment to help cocoa farmers, their families and their communities.”
“The pledge is consistent with our broad-based initiatives to accelerate West African cocoa sustainability. ICCO has indicated that they are pleased with our support for the Abidjan pledge.”
The pledge commits chocolate makers to cooperatively work towards the economic, environmental and social sustainability of the cocoa economy. The full pledge is available HERE.
