Bumper Brazilian cocoa crop forecast

This season's Brazilian cocoa production is already up 57 per cent from thesame period last year, according to the Bahia Commercial Association.

In a weekly report, the association said that Bahia statealone delivered 55,235 60kg bags in the week ending 24 August 2003.

 

This compares with 46,464 bags in the same week last year.

 

Salvador-based cocoa analyst Thomas Hartmann told Reuters news agency that although cocoa production has begun its seasonalslowdown, the volume of produce is still in excess of previousyears.

 

The current Bahia mid-crop may yet reach 1.4 million bags.
