API has increased its holographic foil and film manufacturing capabilities after completing a £0.5m ($642k) investment at its Livingston facility in Scotland.

The announcement comes after API sold its security holographic business; API Holographics to OpSec Security Group last year.

OpSec

The sale included commercial and production assets of the Salford, UK-based security holographics company, along with employees who transferred to OpSec.

Dino Kiriakopoulos, CEO, API Group, said at the time it wanted to focus on its core products such as laminates, foils and holographics for packaging and its decorative holographic foils and films would be transferred to Livingston.

Since the development, the Livingston site has been focusing on lead-times and best practice to meet demand for quality and technical knowledge across its existing and new holographic products.

The addition of holography to our manufacturing has built on our existing hot and cold foiling capabilities and broadened our product scope,” said Colin Boyd, GM, API Livingston.

Coating lines

He said the increased capability means its existing workforce can also gain new skills across its portfolio.

The investment was completed ahead of schedule and Livingston is now the key holographic manufacturing site in Europe for API, offering customers decorative holographic foils and films from three coating lines and embossing.
