The International Sweets and Biscuit Fair (ISM) has announced the top three innovations at this year’s show in Cologne, Germany.

Around 700 visitors to the show voted for the most innovative confectionery and snacks launch from 120 products presented at the New Product Showcase at ISM between January 31 and February 2.

The 46th​ ISM is currently taking place in Cologne, Germany at Koelnmesse until Wednesday February 3. The show features over 1,500 exhibitors from around 70 countries that are showcasing products across six halls, a surface area of 110,000 sqm.

The winners were…

1. Magic Candy Factory – Katjes’ 3D printer

German-based firm Katjes scooped the top award for its Magic Candy Factory 3D printed sugar confectionery.

The company developed a 3D printer capable of producing gummie candies weighing between 15 and 20 g within five minutes.

The printer is set for release in Germany, the UK and the US and can produce intricate designs and personalized gifts such as candies in the shape of a person’s name or face.

The vegan products are also gluten and lactose free and are made from natural fruit and vegetable extracts.

2. Heimatgut - coconut crisps – wasabi

A snack product took second place. Startup Heimatgut, based in Hamburg, won silver for its spicy wasabi-flavoured coconut crisps, a high energy snack.

The gluten-free and vegan product use a gentle heat dring process rather than frying.

The company was established by two friends Maurice Fischer and Aryan Moghaddam.

3. Boncha Boncha – Edible Digital Selfie

Taiwanese firm Boncha Boncha bagged bronze for its personalized sweets and lollipops. The company operates a website allowing consumers to print faces, pictures and messages onto suhar confectionery that is made with isomalt.

Buyers can also choose from a variety of flavors and can customize products to give as gifts or create promotional items.
