UK chocolate market leader Mondelēz International has added a peanut butter and a mint variety to its Cadbury Dairy Milk Oreo range.

The two products will be launched in 120 g tablets this month in UK supermarkets for a suggested retail price of £1.49 ($1.82).

Mondelēz led the UK chocolate confectionery category with a 29.1% share of retail value sales in 2016, unchanged compared to 2015, according to Euromonitor International.

Its Cadbury brand had a 24% brand share of the UK chocolate market last year, but dropped a 0.1% share compared to 2015.

UK’s uncertain business environment

Euromonitor expects the economic impact of Brexit will harm UK chocolate confectionery sales as consumers' disposable income declines amid rising inflation.

It also anticipates cocoa and sugar import costs will rise following Brexit.

Mondelēz increased wholesale prices on some UK products in January, citing increased cocoa costs and a weaker British pound.

The Food and Drink Federation (FDF) told us at the time that consumers could expect a modest increase in retail prices for UK chocolate given the macroeconomic environment in the country.

FDF – whose members include Mars and Mondelēz - said today nearly half of respondents (41%) to its survey of members were less confident about the UK’s business environment than when last polled in October 2016.
