Yowie Group Ltd will start producing chocolate eggs in Florida later this month.

The chocolate eggs based on Yowie Monster characters will be made under license by the Whetstone Chocolate Factory at its manufacturing plant at St Augustine.

Equipment from German firm Rasch will be used to wrap the products.

Yowie’s egg production follows a long-standing ban on toy-filled chocolate eggs in the US.

In August, Yowie launched legal action against Candy Treasure – a New Jersey company that began producing toy-filled chocolate eggs called Choco Treasure after receiving Food and Drug Administration approval earlier this year.

Wayne Loxton, executive chairman of Yowie Group said: “Company remains committed to plans for further expansion into South East Asia where brand awareness remains strong.”

Yowie chocolate products were previously produced by Cadbury under license from Kidcorp Pty Ltd. Cadbury sold 31 million units in Australia in 1997. The Yowie Group now holds rights to Yowie characters.

The Group plans to further expand the brand in Europe and the Middle East in a second phase, but has not publically announced a time frame.
