Confectionery exhibition highlights premium trends

By Karen Willmer , 11-Sep-2007

The growing demand for luxury, fortified, natural and organic confectionery is the focus of this year's All Candy Expo.

The All Candy Expo to be held in Chicago this month will display products from all over the world to demonstrate international industry trends.

"With gourmet confectionery and snack product sales increasing in the double digits year after year, we recognised a need for a dedicated area on the show floor," said Larry Graham, president of the National Confectioners Association. "The premiere of the Gourmet Marketplace this year will provide additional visibility for the niche and mainstream gourmet exhibitors as well as hosting more purchasing opportunities for the speciality buyers."

Single-origin chocolates, products enhanced with vitamins, the benefits of antioxidants and labelling information are other trends highlighted within the expo.

The organisers claim over 2,000 sweets and snacks will be launched at the exposition, with savoury products on display for the first time this year. The exhibitors cover the chocolate, candy, gum, cookies, sweet snacks, nits and salty snacks markets.

"Industry research indicated that nearly 90 per cent of confectionery buyers also purchase related snack categories, which is why the Expo has expanded to include the snack sector," Graham added this week.

Mars, Lindt, Reese's and Nestle are among those exhibitors unveiling new products at the exhibition.

"The All Candy Expo unveils an innovative pipeline of new products that will dominate the marketplace in 2007 and 2008," he added.

The All Candy Expo takes place in Chicago from 17 to 19 September .
