UK luxury chocolate maker Elizabeth Shaw is set to join the growing number of premium confectionery manufacturers targeting the boxed chocolate niche with exotic flavours and single-origin sourcing.

The company is releasing a new range of boxed chocolates for the indulgent end of the market where consumers are prepared to pay more for seemingly higher-quality chocolates and exotic tastes.

A key influence in the market has been consumer awareness of the supply chain and an increasing desire to know exactly where ingredients are sourced.

Following in the footsteps of manufacturers such as Hershey who released its line of Cacao Reserve chocolates last year, Elizabeth Shaw will be producing new Origins chocolates and truffles - sourced from Sao Tome, Ecuador and Java.

Managing director Paul Chmielewski said: "With premiumisation being the single biggest trend in boxed chocolates, there's tremendous potential for quality brands like Elizabeth Shaw.

"Consumers also want top quality products for in-home sharing and self indulgence and we realise that innovative products and presentation are critical for this sector."

In addition, the new range will include truffles infused with liquor, a mint 'after dinner' selection and Chocolate Clusters with Cranberries and Dark Clusters with Orange.

Traditionally luxury boxed chocolates have attracted older consumers but the company hopes to redress the balance with a variety designed specifically for younger chocolate buyers.

The new Vodka Schocks is a chocolate product infused with the unusual tastes of vodka and chilli.

All the products will be heavily marketed at a female audience with a battery of TV, press and online advertising.
