Papermaker James Cropper has launched a food contact-approved range of luxury papers for dry, moist and fatty foodstuffs for the food packaging industry.

The range called Dolcelicious is available in 11 colors, including Lemon Drizzle, Liquorice, Silver Spoon and Kiwi Fizz, designed ‘to elevate the packaging experience for premium food brands’.

Luxepack Monaco

Richard Burnett, market development manager, James Cropper, told ConfectioneryNews, it launched Dolcelicious at the beginning of September and it was unveiled at this year’s Luxury Packaging exhibition in London with plans to showcase it at Luxepack Monaco this week (September 21-23).

Tailor-made packaging is at the heart of what we do at James Cropper and has been for many years. Paper that is suitable for food contact packaging is no different, although food contact has additional regulatory requirements and is a result of substantial investment,” he said.

Each project has its own individual timeline, depending on what finish the customer is looking for and the complexity of the job.”

Burnett added the company has been working on tailor-made packaging for a variety of brands within the food industry for some time and realized there is a growing demand for high-quality colored papers in this sector.

He said there is a ‘huge appetite’ to create something unique that stands out in this competitive industry, whether it’s high-end chocolatiers or speciality tea and coffee suppliers.

Dolcelicious is its first stock range of food contact-approved papers and they can be embossed to ‘enrich’ a brand.

Growing demand in luxury packaging

Having worked with many brands within the food industry, we’ve received requests from a number of them over the years for food contact-approved paper, in addition to our other packaging materials,” said Burnett.

While our Tailor Made service is all about creating bespoke packaging for individual clients’ needs, we’d received enough interest in this for us to devote an entire collection to food contact paper and we went from there.”

He added, having worked with a number of high profile brands and global companies it has seen a growing demand in luxury packaging.

Combined with a substantial growth in key food contact markets such as the global chocolate market over the past decade, it creates a perfect opportunity for James Cropper that plays to our strength as a specialty paper mill,” he said.

The range is manufactured at James Cropper’s main facility in Kendal, UK, and meets Regulation (EC) 1935/2004 and ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 50001 and OHSAS 18001 Standards. All the papers are FSC certified.

Burnett said thanks to the exposure at the Luxury Packaging show in London, the firm had received a number of ‘exciting leads’ and would be releasing news about those in the coming months.
