A new filter bag can make pipeting quicker and easier when testing thick, pasty foods such as chocolate in the lab, claims its manufacturer.

The BagFilter is a range of heavy-duty single-use plastic bags with a non-woven filter, which the manufacturer says, "separates bacterial flora from residual debris and provides easier and quicker pipeting".

The range of BagFilters from Spiral Biotech, suitable for laboratory blenders and mixers, can be used for a variety of foods including meat, fish, vegetables, cheese and chocolate.

"Spiral's BagFilter product provide the quickest way to enhance a laboratory's sample mixer performance," the company claim.

The original BagFilter is non-woven and is available in two models for pipeting or pouring, designed for analysing meat and vegetables.

The BagPage model was designed for use on thick pasty products such as cheese, pastry and chocolate, Spiral said.

"The bag ensures savings in analysis time by trapping sample debris behind the clog-free filter membrane," the manufacturer said.

Further varieties have been designed for freezing or more reliable pipeting with two compartments.

The products are available now in various sizes.
