Bioplastics firm Plantic has sealed a new distribution agreement in the Americas for its line of biopolymer rigid packaging films.

Under the deal, Klöckner Pentaplast will market and sell Plantic films, which are suitable for thermoformed packaging applications, such as trays for chocolates, confectionery, and cookies, throughout the Americas under its Pentafood Biofilm brand name.

Plantic said the distribution deal with Klöckner Pentaplast gives the company the best chance to succeed in the Americas.

“We are excited about entering the next phase of Plantic rigid films expansion into the

Americas. Klöckner Pentaplast is an established global market leader in packaging films and, has extensive knowledge of the packaging markets which will help foster growth of our product line,” said Plantic CEO Brendan Morris.

Plantic will continue to service the Australasian and European markets directly, as it works with Klöckner Pentaplast in the Americas.

For Klöckner Pentaplast, which specialises in rigid packaging films, the distribution deal with Plantic will enhance the breadth of its portfolio, adding new eco-friendly options.

Michael Tubridy, president of Klöckner Pentaplast Americas, said “The Plantic product line complements our portfolio of plastic packaging films by offering a unique end-of-life disposal option. Based on a renewable resource, this film offers our customers yet another option in helping meet their sustainable packaging goals.”

Plantic’s biopolymer film is derived from high-amylase corn starch. The company says the biodegradable product is renewable, home compostable, water dispersible, and compostable to ASTM 6400 and EN 13432 standards.
