The recall of chocolate bar products possibly contaminated with Salmonella has expanded to more than 20 countries.

The Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA) confirmed the items were produced in the country.

The agency said production had been temporarily shut down with a resumption date unknown.

NVWA said it was in close contact with the company about the recall and analysis of what caused the contamination.

It added the source of Salmonella hadn’t been identified as the pathogen was found in the end product - the chocolate wafers.
