US based UBC Food Distributors has recalled 400g cellophane wrapped, product of Lebanon Baraka Apricot Candies after they were found to contain undeclared sulphites as preservatives.

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) said that people with sensitivities to sulphites run the risk of serious life-threatening reaction if they consume the product.

To date, no illnesses have been reported to date in connection with the labelling error.

The problem was believed to have been caused by a temporary breakdown in the company's production and packaging processes.

Production of the product has been suspended until FDA and the company is certain that the problem has been corrected.
