LoeschPack has introduced a horizontal flow wrap machine with hot seal capabilities that it claims will help confectioners protect product integrity in hot climates and pack at greater speeds than competitors.

The company launched its Flow Wrap System Solution, a horizontal flow wrap machine for primary chocolate, chewing gum and biscuits packaging at the International Sweets and Biscuits Fair (ISM) last month.

The speeding ticket for Asia

Juergen Schmidt from the design team of LoeschPack’s partner Ruggli told ConfectioneryNews: “Very special is that we are running hot sealing film and we are running that with maximum speed of 94 meters a minute and that’s a challenge to the competitor…. The competitors are running just 80 meters”

He said the hot seal capabilities of the machine were intended for markets in Asia. “They can’t run the cold sealing wrapping material because of the dirt and insects which come in from the outside into the package.”

‘No way out’

Christoph Krombholz, marketing manager at LoeschPack added: “Loesch makes normally fold wrap. Now we see it is absolutely important to have the flow pack.

“There was no way out, we had to do this. For example we have customers in India who said the fold wrap is not sure enough to ensure hygiene.”

The Flow Wrap System Solution requires one operator who must change the wrapping material and prepare the splice. The worker must also clean the machine after eight hours when there is a shift change.

LoeschPack said a format changeover was almost tool-less and could be achieved in 15 minutes.

“We have a very high performance of this machine. We pack 500 products per minute [for chocolate bars and tablets]. For smaller products we can go up 1,500 per minute,” said Krombholz.
