Nazi exploding chocolate plot to assassinate Churchill
The Daily Mail said that Adolf Hitler’s German bomb-makers planted devices in Peter's branded chocolate bars with the aim of blowing-up key British officials at the height of the Second World War (WWII).
Lord Victor Rothschild, of the famous Rothschild banking family, was working for British Intelligence agency the MI5 during the war and reportedly sent a letter to the artist, Laurence Fish, dated May 4, 1943, asking him to sketch the chocolate.
Rothschild told Fish that the Germans were using bogus confectionery made from steel with a thin chocolate layer that concealed an incendiary device, activated when pulling on a slab.
The ‘Secret’ letter was discovered by Mr Fish’s wife Jean Bray, a journalist compiling a book on her husband’s work.
