Nestle's German unit has discontinued a new nutrition bar brand because of weak demand, according to a report.
German magazine Der Spiegel reported that the Nutrel range, which included muesli bars for pregnant women, energy bars and nutritious drinks, had been discontinued after the firm spent millions of euros to promote the products.
However a Nestle spokesperson said that the range was "momentarily not on the market but we haven't stopped development of the brand", without offering further comment.
Nestle has repeatedly stated that nutrition is part of its long-term strategy but to date most of its products with a health focus are in the dairy sector.
