The trend towards healthy variants of food products continues with
the likes of Cadbury getting in on the act, according to Mintel's

The trend in energy-giving chocolate continues with Cadbury's launch of a guarana-fortified Tempo product in South Africa.

The shortcake biscuit bar contains guarana, increasingly used in functional products, and caramel, and is coated in Cadbury DairyMilk chocolate. The launch follows its Boost Guarana, available in the UK, and rival products including Milka Energy from Kraft Jacobs Suchard and Ritter Sport Guarana Crunch from Alfred Ritter.

Other products listed by Mintel​'s GNPD (Global New Products Database) include lighting lollipops. This is the latest in a long line of confectionery developments. Lollipops have included numerous novelty toy holders from the likes of Chupa Chups, duo fruit & creamy flavours, lollipops with chewing gum centres, lollipops with dipping powders etc.

The latest development is a true innovation. It comprises Pop Lights lollies which light up and flash when a button on the base of the stick is pressed. It is available in five shades (yellow, orange, red, green and blue) and will be introduced into Woolworths stores in the UK.
