Field Packaging, a wholly owned subsidiary of Chesapeake
Corporation, recently won the top award in the confectionery
category at the 2004 Pro Carton/ECMA (European Carton Manufacturers
Association) Carton Awards annual competition.

Field's winning entry was a 'Collection Gift Box,' which resembles a jewellery box and contains fine liqueur chocolates from Elizabeth Shaw, a UK confectionery company. The packaging was designed to reflect the up-market image of the chocolates.

Although it initially appears to be an ordinary chocolate box, the unique design opens to reveal two drawers that slide sidewise in opposite directions. Each drawer contains individually wrapped chocolates in a presentation tray.

The Elizabeth Shaw Collection Gift Box features three colours with a flexo-applied pearlised varnish and foil blocking (stamping).

Field's design team partnered with the Peake & Donoghue Design Agency on the award-winning design, and Field Packaging's manufacturing plant in Bradford, England produced the Elizabeth Shaw Collection Gift Box.

"Since Elizabeth Shaw gained its independence in 2000, we have worked closely with Field to reinvigorate the Elizabeth Shaw brand," said Bill Williams, marketing director for Elizabeth Shaw.

"We've succeeded through a combination of new product development as well as innovation in packaging and design. This approach directly led to the development of this special 'drawer' pack to support the launch of a new chocolate liqueur brand, the Elizabeth Shaw Collection."

The Pro Carton/ECMA Carton Awards competition, now in its eighth year, includes awards presented in seven categories: carton of the year, most innovative design or new use of cartonboard, beverages, beauty and cosmetics, confectionery, food, and non-food.

Field Packaging also won the confectionery category last year with its After Eight mint concertina pack for Nestlé. The 2004 award winners were announced at the Pro Carton Congress held in Budapest, Hungary in September.
