The World’s Sweetest Internship seeks applicants interested in developing communications skills while experiencing the development and manufacturing of iconic confections.

Last year’s internship attracted nearly 100 candidates, including students and even retired lawyers, from across the country, a spokesperson for Mars Wrigley Confectionery told ConfectioneryNews.

This year, two paid interns will work for eight to 12 weeks in either the company’s global headquarters in Chicago or in the US headquarters at the Market Hub in Newark, New Jersey. Rutgers University is helping with the search in Newark.

In addition to assisting with social media and participating in media training, they will support the corporate affairs team in planning, research, execution and analysis of internal, external and public affairs campaigns.

“This internship is special because it invites someone inside to explore the magic behind some of the world’s favorite treats, and in doing so, they inherently share what they learn (and taste!) with their families and friends,” the spokesperson said.

“We’re seeking applicants who are passionate about creating better moments in their communities, and we’ll offer them the tools and mentors they need to develop their communications, digital storytelling and program management skills, and expand their network among community engagement leaders in our city.”

To further ‘make the world smile,’ interns will also spend time on the community engagement side of the business, both with the corporate leadership team and through volunteering with the Chicago staff. Planned activities include building oral care access in underserved communities and sprucing up the riverfront on Goose Island, a section of the Chicago River that Mars Wrigley calls home.

Notably, interns will visit several manufacturing sites and the confectioner’s R&D labs, with the chance to concoct their very own batch of chewing gum.

The internship will start in May 20 and run through August.
