"This acquisition is part of our strategy to enhance our automation technology and position us for long term growth. Robotics will elevate our offering of advanced automation," said Yutaka Miyanaga, president, OMRON Industrial Automation Business Company.
Following the transaction, Rob Cain, president/CEO, Adept, will continue to lead the company and report to Nigel Blakeway, chairman, CEO and president of Omron Management Center of America, OMRON's wholly owned United States subsidiary.
Founded in 1983, Adept recorded annual sales of $54.2m and gross margin of 42.0% in the fiscal year ended June 30, 2015.
