Hershey Foods Corporation has agreed terms for the sale of its Sixlets confectionery candy brand to New York-based firm Sweetworks. Included in the transaction is the right to sell Sixlets-branded products under licence.

"We are pleased to be acquiring the long-established and well-known Sixlets brand," said SweetWorks chief executive Philip Terranova.

"Our sales team is excited about re-introducing the product to national sales brokers. We look forward to developing and growing the brand in both existing and new markets."

SweetWorks was founded in 2002 following the merger of three, long- established confectionery companies - Niagara Chocolates, a leading fund-raising and speciality chocolate manufacturer, and Whetstone Candy Company and Oak Leaf Confections, a leading manufacturer of gum and pressed confectionery.

In January 2003 SweetWorks purchased the Ovation chocolate brand from Hershey Foods. The company is preparing to introduce new product packaging at the All Candy Expo in Chicago in May.
