FMC FoodTech subsidiary Stein is launching the newest addition to its line of XL Series Breading Applicators today at the AMI International Meat, Poultry & Seafood Convention and Exposition. The event, part of Worldwide Food Expo '03 provides companies such as Stein with the opportunity to showcase their latest innovations.

Stein, a global specialist in coating, frying and cooking equipment, has designed the XL-40A, with a number of improvements in mind. The machine's hydraulics, safety switches, flour dust containment, cleanability and sanitation have all been addressed and a number of new design features have been included.

For example, the breader's dust containment hoods have been redesigned to encompass the entire machine. Its blower tubes have been moved further awayfrom the discharge end, and the auger housings and clamping mechanisms have been made sturdier to reduce the amount of dust expelled from the machine. The XL40A breader also features an XL frame with tapered sides and only one pressure roller.

In addition, the hopper and sprinkle conveyors have been merged, all hydraulic piping is stainless steel and all electrical wires have been routed through conduits.

"The new XL-40A offers all of the proven features that have made our XL Series Breading Applicators the first choice for food processors for years," said Elizabeth Monasterio, product line manager for FMC FoodTech. "The numerous improvements we have made to the XL-40A make it the most efficient, hygienic and high-quality breader on the market."

Modifications made to the design of the XL-40A include completely re-designed stainlesssteel fittings and stainless steel pressure compensated Parker valves. The XL-40A also features a reduced number of safety switches that have been made sturdier, more tolerant to misalignment and located unobtrusively. The increased reliability of these switches will decrease the length of equipment downtime.
