Slicing time off production

Dutch group Kiremko, a manufacturer and installer of machinery
required for the processing of potatoes into French fries, chips
and other speciality snack products has developed, in co-operation
with ACEco, a new device that it claims will yield greater output
over shorter production time.

The innovative Strapslicer, the first in a line of non-multiblade tension systems with broken strap sensing, is made primarily for the cutting of French fries and slices. The high impact strap is made of stainless steel and acts as a non-sharpened cutter, allowing for greater control and size consistency in the end product.

The new design consists of two accurate strap holders each holding a strap that can be adjusted at the users' disclosure. With these straps it is possible to monitor the tension using small embedded sensors, connected to an alarm system or switcher, which makes for both safer and consistent production. From these sensor readings, the users are able to rectify differences in size, weights, distributions, quantities and will detect broken blades and congestion.

The thickness of each strap has been reduced by 1mm to just 0.2mm, as opposed to a conventional kitchen knife at 1.2mm, meaning a cleaner cut and thus a reduction of absorbed fats and starch. It is because of this reduction in size that lifespan increases five to ten times, the company claims.

The Strapslicer can be used as a standalone unit, and its compact size and relative light weight would suit most snack production lines, according to Kiremko.

The Strapslicer can attach easily to any of Kiremko's other hydro-cutting lines, the company said.
