Greater market penetration is expected for Avebe starch products as
Fiske Food Denmark, a distributor of food and beverage ingredients,
links up with the potato starch firm to distribute products from
the Dutch farming co-operative.

Under the agreement Fiske Food Denmark, part of the ingredients division of chemicals firm Univar, will distribute corn, wheat and tapioca starches, maltodextrins, dextroses and modified starches to small and medium-sized companies.

Avebe will continue to sell directly to large accounts in Denmark.

"Benefits for food industry participants are that the small companies get technical support, better logistics and smaller deliveries," a spokesperson for Fiske Food Denmark told FoodNavigator.com.

The Univar company will distribute to existing clients of Avebe as well as drumming up new business for the starch products, standing alone in the Fiske product portfolio for Denmark. We are not offering any other starches in this region, so no competition for the Avebe range, said the distributor that aims to supply a 'one-stop' range of ingredients.

"We have selected Fiske Food Denmark in order to intensify our sales and marketing effort to the Danish food industry," commented Erik Kjellberg, managing director of Avebe Starches North Europe.

Fiske Food Denmark has the logistics network, including the warehouses, but outsources the fleet.

Leading food companies operating in Denmark include the number one player Danish Crown, followed by Arla Foods, Carlsberg, and ingredients players Danisco, Novozymes, Aarhus Oliefabrik and Chr. Hansen.
