Nestlé launches luxury chocolates

Food and confectionery giant Nestlé is introducing a new range of luxury chocolates to complement its successful premium coffee business, Nespresso.

The move has been seen by some as surprising, given the global economic crisis and the resulting trend amongst consumers of switching to cheaper products.

Nestlé claims its luxury range is a way of tapping into the strong growth in the chocolate industry from emerging markets and premium products.

The firm is collaborating with Belgian chocolatier Pierre Marcolini on the new products.
