RLC said it has bought a 100 per cent holding in Limmatdruck/Zeiler, which has two production sites in Spreitenbach near Zürich and Köniz near Bern. The acquisition is effective as of 1 July 2011.
“The main aim of the takeover was to acquire an established and successful packaging manufacturer positioned as an industry leader in its domestic market and exhibiting the innovative strength needed to create the ideal basis for further expansion into European markets,” said Hans-Christian Bestehorn, management spokesman for RLC.
“In addition to the renowned expertise of Limmatdruck/Zeiler in the area of confectionary packaging, the acquisition will also benefit our Food and Pharma divisions, an expertise we plan to expand especially at the sites in Switzerland.”
The takeover of the Swiss premium cardboard packaging company increases the RLC group’s workforce to around 1,200. It now has employees in eight plants – at facilities in Hanover, Berlin and Aachen in Germany, at the two new sites in Switzerland, and at a site in Poznań in Poland.
The premium segment of the confectionery packaging arena is a key growth target for RLC; it recently acquired another leading player in the field. April saw it takeover Germany's largest family-led folding box manufacturer - Aug. Heinrigs Druck + Verpackung.
Aug Heinrigs has “expertise in confectionary packaging that is widely recognized in the industry,” noted RLC at the time. Its Aachen facility also gives RLC “significant logistical advantages for markets in the Benelux countries and France. “
