Europen – the European Organization for packaging and Environment - has appointed Véronique Bagge as its new managing director.

Bagge will take up the post on 2 January 2012, succeeding Julian Carroll, who has held the post for 19 years since the industry body opened its office in Brussels in 1993.

Until earlier this year, Bagge was based in Hong Kong as group sustainability manager for a Danish Toy retail group. She is fluent in French, English and Danish.

Previously, she worked in Brussels, initially as a trade advisor with the Danish Embassy. This was followed by five years in the European Parliament as head of a political secretariat reporting to a Danish MEP, then for seven years with the European Commission External Relations Directorate as a budget and financial officer.

“I am delighted that that we can welcome Véronique Bagge as our new Managing Director and I believe her to be eminently suitable for this challenging position,” said Europen chairman John Swift of SCA Packaging.
