UK-based firm Revolymer has secured distribution agreements with 450 retail chains in the US for its degradable chewing gum Rev7.

Around 4,000 stores in the US will now stock the gum, which recently secured novel foods approval in the EU.

The product features a gum base that degrades faster than conventional bases.

Convenience chains signed up include QuikTrip, East Coast and Unified Stores.

Revolymer chairman and CEO Roger Pettman said: "Revolymer is going from strength to strength, rapidly expanding in the U.S., and we will continue looking to introduce the product to Europe in 2012"

"We recently received the final approval to market Rev7(TM) in Europe, making it the first new gumbase ingredient for over 30 years."
