A campaign group against gobbledygook, jargon and misleading public information has slammed Kraft/Cadbury for going overboard on nut labelling and said that manufacturers are in fear of regulatory bodies.

The Plain English Campaign has hit out at Kraft’s numerous warnings on Cadbury’s Milk Tray that the product may contain nuts.

It was  aghast that the varitey box, which carries chocolates called Nut Secret, Hazelnut Heaven and Hazelnut Caress, carried eight nut alerts on the menu selection alone and further warnings on the box.

The Plain English Campaign said that warnings were necessary for allergy sufferers, but was puzzled by such frequent repetition.

Chrissie Maher, founder of Plain English Campaign said: “This needless repetition from manufacturers in warnings smacks of paranoia and fear of regulatory bodies, rather than helping the customer to enjoy a treat."

“The ingredients of common sense, plain English and one clear statement should satisfy the regulators, save the manufacturers time and money, and still give the shopper the information they need.”
