Lindt launches wasabi chocolate in US
Lindt & Sprungli has added three new products to its chocolate range including a bar featuring wasabi.
The company has introduced Lindor caramel truffles, Excellence Wasabi and Excellence Strawberry bars.
The wasabi bar is a dark chocolate with 47% cocoa spiced with wasabi flavor. The company said the product may appeal to consumers looking for “a unique spice”. The product has a suggested retail price of $2.59. The company already has wasabi bars in the UK and Australia.
Nestlé manufactures wasabi KitKat for the Asian market, while premium chocolatier Vosges has an exotic chocolate bar for the US that includes wasabi and retails at $7.50 per 3 oz bar.
Market analysts KMPG previously told this site that wild flavors such as bacon and wasabi would be required to excite sophisticated confectionery tastes in the US.
