Nine in 10 Americans will stock up on candy this Easter and will mainly look to discount retailers to spend their bucks.

The National Retail Federation’s (NRF) 2013 Easter Spending Survey found that the average person celebrating Easter will spend around $145.13 on candy, decorations, clothes and food.

According to the survey of 5,050 people, most of the money will go towards will go towards a holiday meal ($45.26) and clothing for the start of Spring ($25.91).

US consumers are expected to spend an average of $20.66 on Easter confections from chocolate eggs to jelly beans. This is around the same amount as last year ($20.35), but more than the 2011 average of $18.55.

NRF President and CEO Matthew Shay said: “With a plethora of budgetary concerns already on their plates, Americans this Easter will look for special, creative ways to celebrate the holiday without breaking the bank.”

He said that retailers were already “lining their shelves with specials on chocolates”​ to capitalize.

The majority, 63.4%, are expected to shop for Easter at discount stores. Many are also expected to research products on smartphones with four in 10 smartphone users saying they would use their device to compare prices and even purchase products.
