Mondelez International will introduce larger rounder pieces for Cadbury Dairy Milk in New Zealand for the same price point.

New larger 220 g packs marked ‘Extra Joy’ will be priced the same as previous 190 g and 200 g blocks.

Chocolate firms have been widely criticized for reducing the size of bars, but keeping the same price point.

Alastair de Raadt, managing director at Cadbury New Zealand, said in a statement: “We listen to our customers and through extensive testing and research they’ve told us they prefer the new rounder pieces which really enhance the smooth and creamy eating experience and their enjoyment of Cadbury Dairy Milk chocolate, so we set about making this happen.”

Facebook criticism

On Facebook, some consumers criticized Cadbury for allegedly reducing the size of blocks from 250 g to 200 g a few years ago and using a similar price point.

Cadbury New Zealand said in response: “We felt it was important to deliver more chocolate for the same price to our fans and we would not have been able to achieve this if we’d increased the size of the block to 250 grams.”

Whole nuts and launches

The Extra Joy blocks will use new resealable packaging and will hit stores around Mid-May.

Mondelez has also introduced a 135 g Cadbury Dairy Milk block intended for sharing among small families and couples.

The firm will also include whole nuts in all block nut varieties such as Cadbury Dairy Milk Fruit & Nut and Roast Almond.
