Richard Sprüngli dies aged 97

The former head of Confiserie Sprüngli Richard Sprüngli has died aged 97.

He was the fifth generation of family Sprüngli to lead the company. He is credited with popularizing the Luxemburgerli brand, a small variety of macaron with a cream filling

In 1892, Confiserie Sprüngli split from Lindt to become a handcrafted family operation, while the Lindt & Sprüngli Chocolate Factory became the industrial operation.

Richard Sprüngli took the helm at Confiserie Sprüngli in 1956 and would go on to chair the board at the Swiss company until 1994.
