Smaller confectioners moving to robotics, says PWR Pack
In this video from Interpack 2014 in Dusseldorf, Germany, Peter Mellon, director of PWR Pack said: “Today robots are so reliable and cost effective that they can have a very quick payback. So we are finding more and more confectionery manufacturers are able to afford robotics today…”
“It’s becoming more affordable because the technology has moved on drastically over the last two to three years.”
“Even small confectionery players that maybe need one or two robots are making enquires.”
Delicate confections
PWR has developed a gripping technology that picks delicate confections damage-free.
The technology uses a line scan camera to detect the position of the confection. It lets the robot know the precise location of the product and the robot then picks and places the product in the package.
“The main benefit for the confectionery manufacturer is that he can package his goods much more efficiently and effectively,” said Mellon.
“When products are hand-packed you can even when touching it ever so gently with your finger you can damage some of these products.”
