Atkins Nutritionals packaging error prompts chocolate recall

Atkins Nutritionals is recalling some of its Chocolate Candies because it may contain sachets of Chocolate Peanut Candies.

Three consumers purchased the mislabelled product and alerted Atkins to the issue but no illnesses or allergic reactions have been reported.

Atkins Chocolate Peanut Candy individual sachets have been placed into outer cartons of Atkins Chocolate Candies – 5 ct. sachets.

Although the inner sachets are marked as Chocolate Peanut Candies, there is a chance of consumer confusion and people who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to peanut products risk serious allergic reaction if they consume the products.

Atkins Chocolate Candies, 5 ct. sachets with UPC code 637480075558 are involved.

The affected product is marked with lot number A5118139439C (with a "best before" date of April 28, 2016), A5119139439A, A5119139439B, A5119139439C (with a "best before" date of April 29, 2016) and A5120139439A (with a "best before" date of April 30, 2016).

Atkins said while only a limited number of customers were affected, the quality and safety of products is top priority.

“We are asking our retail partners receiving this notification to quickly isolate indicated product above both in distribution centers and retail stores, quantify for credit, and confirm destruction with your Atkins Representatives.  

“Please complete the enclosed Certificate of Destruction form, or your standard form (making certain it covers the same elements) and return to Atkins no later than Monday, July 13 2015.  Upon receipt of your signed Product Destruction Log we will initiate the product replacement and credit process.”
