The film is available in transparent, golden metallized, silver metallized, white opaque and holographic form and can run at speeds of up to 1,500 pieces/minute on candy wrapping machines.
Twistable property which ‘loses its memory once twisted’
It comes in different thickness; 60 gauge and 72 gauge.
Shantanu Muthe, manager, Business Development, Flex Films USA, told ConfectioneryNews, the firm has manufacturing units in six countries (USA, Mexico, Poland, Egypt, Dubai and India) and plans to announce a new facility soon.
“The packaging industry is moving fast towards the usage of environmental friendly films,” he said.
“Due to increasing competition in the market, packaging companies are looking to reduce the thickness of their laminate by maintaining required properties of the laminate structure.
“We’re seeing a trend for a quick turnaround. Flex Films USA has also started producing inline silicon coated PET films at our Kentucky plant and our white opaque PET films have started to get attention from a lot of label manufacturers due to their easy availability from our manufacturing unit in North America.”
The candy BOPET film is manufactured at the company’s Mexico and US plant and comes with a twistable property which ‘loses its memory once twisted’ known as a zero memory effect to retain its twisted position for longer periods.
Shorter delivery times
“In the candy wrapping industry customers are normally using paper or transparent films for wrapping of hard candies,” added Muthe.
“When it comes to films, some of them are not environmental friendly (PVC) and others are costly. Also it is hard to get right quantities in the required time as it is not easily available on the market.
“Due to these reasons candy manufacturers have started looking for another material which is environmentally friendly and easily available.
“As Flex Films has six manufacturing units in six countries, this zero memory film can be produced in any of our plants, with shorter delivery times.”
According toMuthe, the availability of environmental friendly films for packaging applications and easy and quick availability of material to convertors is always a big issue for the converting industry.
“The main game changer for packaging films in today’s climate is availability of environmentally friendly films and quick availability of any type of packaging films in required size and required quantities,” he said.
“There are many players available in the market for the supply of packaging films but what the industry really needs is a reliable player who has got the ability to deliver freshly prepared material within the shortest possible lead time plus a reasonable quality of films.”
