Mars Wrigley Confectionery has decided to base its US headquarters in Hackettstown and Newark in New Jersey.

The company will utilize its existing offices in Hackettstown as well as a new location in Newark. However, its global headquarters will remain in Chicago.

“Expanding in New Jersey will enable the continued growth of our US business,” said Berta de Pablos Barbier, president of Mars Wrigley Confectionery US.

Mars added that opening a new office in Newark is “an opportunity for [it] to return to its roots”.

“More than 75 years ago, Mars opened its doors in Newark when M&M’s candies were first created in 1941 as military rations during World War II,” it said.

Upon transitioning its regional headquarters by July 2020, Mars will have approximately 500 employees working in Newark and 1,000 in Hackettstown.

New Jersey Economic Development Authority (EDA) recently granted Mars Wrigley a $3.15m annual tax credit package over 10 years for bringing 483 jobs to the state.

“In addition to investment in a new office in Newark, Mars will continue to invest in its office and manufacturing facility in Hackettstown,” said Mars Wrigley.
