Amcor invests in all-electric machines to produce lightweight containers

Amcor has invested in all electric machines for its injection blow molding (IBM) and extrusion blow molding (EBM) packaging.

It has acquired the Jet series IBM platform from Meccanoplastica Group, in Italy and the KBB series EBM platform from Kautex Maschinenbau, Germany. 

Suresh Krishnan, senior director, platform strategy, Amcor Rigid Plastics’ Diversified Products Division, said the all-electric platforms have more precision, repeatability, and consistency, with lower energy consumption. 

He said with the IBM and EBM platforms the company will be able to refresh its manufacturing assets, delivering greater quality with the latest technologies to meet today’s demands packaging demands, this includes lightweight containers with improved wall thickness and faster cycle times.   

Among the industries targeted will initially be PP and HDPE healthcare packaging, home and personal care, followed by food.
