ProSweets Cologne concentrates on future industry trends in biggest trade fair yet

The international supplier fair for the sweets and snacks industry runs in conjunction with ISM from from 27 to 30 January 2019.

With main themes on reformulation and packing expected to be the main focus of ProSweets Cologne 2019, organizers Koelnmesse says the number of exhibitors is up by 4% on last year. Once again, ProSweets is being staged parallel to ISM, the world's largest and most important trade fair for sweets and snacks, and thus in the direct vicinity of its sales market.

More than 1,700 international exhibitors from 70 countries are expected, with up to 40,000 trade visitors gathering over four days for a unique overview of new products from all over the world.

Snacking

As at ISM, snacking will also play an increasingly more important role at this year’s event. Organizers say that of the currently registered companies, around 42% offer products and solutions for the production and packing of the product sections fruit and vegetable snacks, savory snacks and other types of snacks.

Beyond this, an exciting lecture and event program that covers all facets of the supplier industry, is being offered. The trade visitors can inform themselves about the latest trends of the industry in special events on the themes reformulation and packing as well as in the Newcomer Area. Furthermore, the ProSweets Cologne Party invites guests to network and celebrate,”​ a spokesperson for Koelnmesse told Confectionery News.

Highlights and special events to look out for this year include:

Solutions concerning the reformulation of sweets and snacks in an ingredients special event. The current trends involving the reduction of fat, sugar and salt as well as vegetarian or vegan diets will be addressed and thematized in presentations and at onexhibitions stands.

'Function meets Design' - sustainability, practicability and lifestyle are important criteria when evaluating packing nowadays. How manufacturers master this challenge and succeed in finding the right design and materials is addressed in the special event in Hall 10.1. at Stand H50.

As part of the 'Secure Networked Systems' performance center, the Fraunhofer Institutes EMFT, AISEC and ESK, together with partners from science and industry, have developed solutions to monitor processes in the production, transport and storage of foodstuffs.

There will also be examples of modern technology on show when trade visitors will learn how to create brands with the help of augmented reality and create completely new, extended product experiences for consumers. In addition, the unlimited possibilities of VR will be highlighted using an example of a ‘virtual supermarket’.
