Ethical chocolatier MIA (Made-in-Africa ) has received three 2019 Great Taste Awards from the Guild of Fine Food in London.

Every year, the Guild of Fine Food organises the Great Taste Awards (‘The Oscars’ of the food industry) leading up to the Speciality & Fine Food Fair in London, which took place in September.

With almost 13,000 entries this year, MIA grabbed awards for three of its single origin, bean-to-bar dark chocolates crafted with fine flavour Madagascan cocoa: Baobab & Salted Nibs (2 stars), 75% Dark Chocolate (2 stars) and 100% Cocoa (1 stars).

MIA Co-founder Sarah Lescrauwaet said: “We are really proud of the hard work we do with the producer communities in Madagascar and the support we’ve received in the market, so this is a great day for everyone in the MIA supply chain, from cocoa farmer to chocolate maker to retail partners. We also credit the focus and success of the MIA brand to our collaboration with Proudly Made In Africa, the NGO partner that helps us evaluate our social impact and keep abreast of market trends.”

Proudly Made in Africa works with MIA and other brands to make value-added products in Africa ‘as a means to realise their vision for the international marketplace’.

Vikki Brennan, Proudly Made in Africa CEO said: “While supply chain integrity and added-value in Africa are paramount, we also stress product quality for African brands to successfully compete in the European market. The MIA awards give strength to our vision and demonstrate to the marketplace and African producers alike that made-in-Africa products have a place in the global marketplace.”
