Alter Eco will showcase the first Grass Fed Milk Chocolate Collection at the 2020 Natural Products Expo West (March 3-7, California).

The company will also debut a limited-edition Earth Day-inspired pack on its signature Deep Dark Salted Brown Butter Bar to highlight the regenerative farming methods supported within its supply chain.

Peruvian cocoa

The Grass Fed Milk Chocolate Collection is available in three flavors, Grass Fed Milk, Grass Fed Milk With Salted Almonds and Grass Fed Milk With Rice Crunch, made with 46% Peruvian cocoa sourced from fair trade co-ops.

The grass fed cows have access to the outdoors 365 days a year and are open pastured twice as long as USDA Certified Organic standards. With a 100% USDA Certified Organic diet made up of 90% grass.

Alter Eco is also committed to providing clean ingredients that extend from the farm to the final product, which means never using corn feed, GMOs, refined sugars or preservatives.

So many people love the classic taste of milk chocolate so we wanted to create a collection that not only tastes decadent but supports the restorative agricultural and sustainability practices we stand for,” said Mike Forbes, CEO, Alter Eco.

We’re proud to have created a milk chocolate bar that aligns with our high standards.”

The limited-edition Earth Day packaging for Deep Dark Salted Brown Butter Bar, is available from April 1 until June, featuring a photograph taken at one of the small-scale farms where Alter Eco sources its cacao that practices dynamic agroforestry.

This traditional method of farming regenerates land and supports biodiversity through planting various species of trees alongside the cacao to mimic its natural environment.

Earth Day’s 50th anniversary

Launching in tandem with Earth Day’s 50th anniversary, Alter Eco hopes the packaging will bring awareness around a better, more sustainable way to grow food.

As climate change continues to impact the planet and the food we eat, it’s important for us to help reverse the effects in any way we can,” said Forbes.

Our Earth Day-inspired packaging is a great reminder of our responsibility to do this within the cacao industry.”

Alter Eco’s Grass Fed Milk Chocolate Collection will be available in April with an SRP of $3.99 per 2.65-oz. (75g) bar. Limited-edition Deep Dark Salted Brown Butter will be available April through June with an SRP of $3.99 per 2.82 (80g) bar.

Alter Eco practices a full-circle approach to sustainability throughout its operations and supply chain through four pillars: sourcing using Fair Trade principles, producing only organic and non-GMO foods, creating minimal waste by working towards 100% compostable packaging, and in-setting carbon emissions by means of large-scale reforestation/conservation programs in the cooperatives that produce its crops.
