Dutch ethical and premium chocolate brand Tony’s Chocolonely has announced it is launching a Dark Milk bar in the UK this month.

Launching exclusively in Sainsbury's supermarket, the new Dark Milk bar comes in a pastel blue wrapper and is made with Belgian Fairtrade chocolate with at least 42% cocoa solids.

The new bar is described as ‘a delicious creamy milk chocolate bar with the bite and punch of decadent dark chocolate’ and is made up of dark milk chocolate with ‘148 impact beans’, which means farmers in Ghana and Côte d'Ivoire earn more money from the beans they sell to the company.

Tony’s Chocolonely has created its own system in West Africa to be able to trace its cocoa back to source, and it personally works with farms and factories to track their impact.

This is the ideal bar for choco lovers who love the comfort of milk chocolate and the complexity of dark cocoa. The bar is also free from palm oil and plastic packaging - as all Tony’s Chocolonely bars are,” said a spokesperson for the brand.

The brand is also calling on chocolate fans to sign a petition to make all chocolate companies 100% responsible for their supply chains. “Despite industry promises to reduce it, the use of child labour on cocoa farms in top producers, Ivory Coast and Ghana, has risen over the past decade,” it said.

  • The new Dark Milk Chocolate bar has a RRP of £3.99 and is available exclusively at Sainsbury’s and Tony’s Choco Shop.
