Following on from its successful Halloween campaign, which managed to keep candy and chocolate at the foremost of consumers’ minds while celebrating the season safely, the National Confectioners Association (NCA) says sweet treats will also play a responsible role at Christmas time.

In this unusual year, people are seeking consistency and normalcy while celebrating the winter holidays even as they adopt COVID-19 safety precautions, the NCA says … after 85% of Americans tell the trade organization they are confident they will find creative and safe ways to celebrate the 2020 winter holidays and expect chocolate and candy to add some enjoyment to the holiday.

According to the NCA, whether stuffing a stocking with treats or spinning a dreidel for some Hanukkah gelt, holiday treats can be a reliable way to maintain tradition while adapting celebrations for 2020.

In a year when so much has changed, people are finding comfort in creative holiday traditions that involve chocolate or candy,” said NCA President & CEO John Downs. “Chocolate and candy spark all sorts of nostalgia and comforting memories – which can continue no matter how or with whom people are celebrating.”

The NCA says it is delivering resources to help people manage their sugar intake around the holidays with a digital hub at AlwaysATreat.com/WinterHolidays.
