Recalled Kinder products still on sale in Scotland
Consumers have been warned to remain vigilant as the products are linked to an ongoing Salmonella outbreak and were recalled by Ferrero in early April.
A number of cases reported in the UK have involved small children and Stuart McAdam, FSS Head of Incidents, said: “Investigations have found that some products previously recalled remain on retailer shelves.
“In addition, products intended for the European market only, that have been recalled by Ferrero in Europe, have been subsequently imported into the UK by UK importers not linked to Ferrero.
Ferrero extended its precautionary recall of Kinder products manufactured at its Arlon factory in Belgium to include confectionery originally intended for the European market only.
Investigations found that some of these products that had already been recalled by the manufacturer in Europe had been imported into the UK by companies not linked to Ferrero.
The UK Food Standards Agency (FSA) said that this latest update was in addition to its previous recall update and did not replace it.
New products on this recall included: Kinder Maxi Mix Peluche 133g; Kinder Niespdzianka Maxi Lei 100g; Ferrero Kinder Mix Geschenktüte 193g; and Kinder Surprise Geant Gar.
“While FSS continues to work closely with Local Authorities and Public Health Scotland, I would urge any small business owner to double check their stock to ensure recalled product isn’t available for sale,” McAdam told local media.
The packaging of the products in the original recall do not refer to the original source at Belgium factory and may include a different contact address. Consumers were advised to not eat any of the affected products and instead to contact Ferrero directly to obtain a full refund.
