UK nutrition brand Battle Oats has launched a new high protein, low sugar snack product aimed at the impulse market looking for a chocolate fix.

Battle Bites – which complement the company’s range of high protein oat bars and vegan protein cookies – have been developed by the Hull-based company to combine the indulgence of a chocolate candy bar with a nutritious snack.

However, according to founders Kevin Smith and Shaun Gibbins, while some of the well-known confectionery brands have launched their own higher protein bars, these are still very high in sugar.

The new bars contain low sugar milk chocolate, meaning the snack has 500% less sugar than many chocolate bars found on the market.

Win : win

They also contain 20g of protein, less than 3g of sugar and less than 3g of impact carbs.

“Battle Bars provide a tasty snack which feels indulgent, but with the bonus of being low calorie, low sugar and having nutritional benefits such as being high in protein,” said Smith.

Gibbins added the snacks are a convenient way to consume additional protein throughout the day without adding unwanted carbs and sugar.

Portion control

“They even come in two bite-sized pieces so they’re great for sharing and encourage better portion control,” he said.

Sold in packs of two 62g bars, Battle Bites will initially be available in three flavours – chocolate caramel, cookies & cream and choc coconut. The company is planning to add three additional flavours to the range later this year.

Available online at BattleOats.com and on Amazon, and through UK wholesalers, Muscle Finesse, Tropicana Health and Fitness, and Ireland-based Protamino Nutrition as well as through selected convenience stores, garage forecourts and gyms.
