Open to anyone, Cake International’s prestigious competition celebrates the creativity and skill of cake decorators worldwide.

Due to increased demand, entries are now open for what the organisers purport to be the world’s biggest decoration competition, taking place during Cake International in Birmingham, UK, from 4-6 November.

According to organisers ICHF Events, the number of entries this year is expected to tip over 1,000, with competitors flying in from across the globe. Previous years have seen entries from as far as Indonesia, India, China, Argentina, South Korea and the US.

The competition is broken into a wide range of categories, from beginners, to tiered cakes, delicate sugar flower creations and 3D cookies, among others.

“From jaw-dropping giant cake creations to delicate floral work and wedding cakes, competitors from across the globe will be working hard to achieve the most beautiful and creative works of art,” said Melanie Underwood, head of Cake International & Bake International.

“The judging process is like no other cake competition, with a huge team of highly trained judges. The Best in Show winner will walk away with a trophy and £2,500, the largest cash prize in Europe for this type of competition. For any cake decorating enthusiast, from beginner to expert, this is the competition to take part in.”

Headline sponsors

Cake International has also announced the headline sponsor for 2022.

Smartflex is a UK-based manufacturer of flower, modelling and sugar pastes in a range of colour and flavour choices that are completely allergen-free (including lactose and gluten), sold through online and brick-and-mortar retailers across Europe.

The family-owned firm’s vision was built on creating elite, affordable, premium products for the confectionary market, springing from its flagship product, the Formix Almond-flavoured cake covering, which proved extremely popular among both professionals and home bakers.

Meanwhile, Renshaw, a leading UK manufacturer of ready to roll icing, marzipan, frostings, caramel and mallows, will be sponsoring the cojoined Bake International, taking place for the first time to showcase everything from bread to pastries.

Kayleigh McDonough, consumer communications manager at Renshaw, said, “We are delighted to be celebrating baking as headline sponsors of the brand-new Bake International. We are looking forward to joining our customers at the show and sharing our 120 years of baking and cake decorating expertise and inspiration with fellow enthusiasts.”

Alongside Cake International and the brand new Bake International are sister shows The Creative Craft Show and Simply Christmas.

Registration to take part in Cake International’s cake decorating competition must be done online, closing on 11 September.
