Lindt Dubai-style ice cream – overview

  • Lindt launches limited-edition Dubai Style Sundae exclusively in stores
  • Sundae combines Crema Gelata, pistachio sauce and kadayif pastry

  • New milkshake flavours support Lindt’s broader summer innovation programme
  • Success could drive retail expansion and wider confectionery diversification

Lindt & Sprüngli is bringing the Dubai chocolate trend to ice cream with the launch of its new Dubai Style Sundae.

Made using Crema Gelata ice cream, layered with Kadayif pastry and pistachio sauce, and topped with praline, the limited edition innovation is available only in Lindt stores – for now.

Dubai chocolate trend continues

The launch taps into the continuing popularity of Dubai chocolate, a trend that’s rapidly expanded beyond confectionery into categories including bakery, desserts and beverages.

The confectionery giant is also launching the Lindt Mango Milkshake, blending white chocolate ice cream with mango syrup, and has teased the launch of a Matcha Strawberry Milkshake later this summer.

The limited-edition range forms part of Lindt’s summer innovation programme as brands increasingly look to premium desserts and experiential formats to drive footfall and engage consumers seeking seasonal indulgences.

“With temperatures soaring this summer, we’re excited for chocolate fans to explore our freshly made ice creams and milkshakes only in Lindt stores,” says Miquetta de Castro, master chocolatier at Lindt & Sprüngli UK.

Confectionery expands beyond chocolate

The move reflects the growing trend for confectionery companies to stretch their portfolios beyond traditional chocolate products into adjacent categories, including desserts and beverages.

We’ve seen Mars, Inc. extending M&M’s, Snickers and Twix into ice cream and milkshake formats, Ferrero Group bringing Kinder and Nutella into frozen desserts and bakery products, and Mondelēz International expanding Oreo and Cadbury into categories ranging from ice cream to ready-to-drink beverages.

The strategy enables brands to tap into new consumption occasions while capitalising on existing consumer recognition and loyalty.

Retail potential

Whether the Dubai Style Sundae remains a limited-edition offering or evolves into a permanent retail product will likely depend on consumer response. But, given the sustained popularity of Dubai-style chocolate and the growing appetite for premium pistachio-based desserts, the concept could lend itself to wider commercialisation, including packaged ice cream tubs, multipacks or impulse formats for grocery retail.

If successful, Lindt’s move may also provide a blueprint for other confectionery manufacturers looking to capitalise on growth opportunities beyond traditional chocolate bars.
