Italian chocolate maker gives brands including Kinder, Tic Tac, Butterfinger and Crunch a superhero makeover in cinematic collaboration

Ferrero’s Marvel partnership: Overview

  • Ferrero partnered with Marvel to create superhero-themed confectionery products
  • New launches include Butterfinger Crunch Kinder and Tic Tac
  • Nutella Waffles and Tic Tac Two broaden innovation portfolio
  • Collectibles and character licensing aim to attract younger consumers
  • Strategy combines brand partnerships and product innovation for growth

Ferrero’s teaming up with the highest-grossing film franchise in history.

That’s right, the luxury Italian chocolate maker is stepping into the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and is giving some of its best-loved brands a makeover to mark the occasion.

The collaboration is the latest in Ferrero’s growing list of brand partnerships and pop culture tie-ins, which includes the recent FIFA World Cup prize giveaway, as confectionery manufacturers look for new ways to engage consumers, drive impulse purchases and attract younger audiences.

Innovations include:

  • Butterfinger Green Apple Smash, featuring Hulk
  • Crunch Infinity Chocolate, featuring Loki
  • Tic Tac Berry & Lime, featuring Mister Fantastic
  • Kinder Joy collectibles including Spider-Man, Captain America and Black Panther
  • Kinder Chocolate packs with collectible character cards

“Ferrero is building on a year of major marketing moments with collaborations that bring iconic characters and our beloved brands together in new ways,” says Michael Lindsey, president and chief business officer of Ferrero North America. “The Marvel Universe gives us a powerful platform to excite fans and introduce Ferrero brands to new audiences.”

Why Marvel matters

Marvel isn’t Ferrero’s first foray into entertainment-driven confectionery. The company already owns the Wonka brand, giving it experience in using popular fictional worlds and characters to engage consumers.

The latest collaboration suggests Ferrero sees further opportunity in combining pop culture with confectionery innovation to generate excitement and encourage repeat purchases.

Growth through innovation

Alongside its comic-book creations, Ferrero’s also launching Nutella Waffles, which are, as you’d imagine, Nutella-filled waffles - yum!

“These are tier one disruptive innovations that take advantage of Ferrero’s expanding portfolio,” says Jim Klein, chief customer officer of Ferrero USA. “These creative, exciting new treats will help c-stores grow incremental sales across their categories.”

The launches form part of Ferrero’s wider innovation strategy, which has led to strong investment in established brands. By leveraging globally recognised brands and characters alongside product innovation, the multinational’s aiming to strengthen its position across confectionery and snacking.

In other news, the confectionery giant’s also taking Tic Tac Two to the US. Launched first in Europe, they’re just like the original Tic Tacs... except they’re twice the size and include two flavors instead of one!

And, while the Marvel-themed products are likely to generate the most attention, the broader wave of launches and distribution extensions highlights Ferrero’s ambition to use a mix of innovation, licensing partnerships and new product formats to drive growth across its portfolio.
