Sacmi will debut its Packaging & Chocolate division for the first time at ProSweets 2019.

The company announced in September last year it was launching the division as part of an organisation restructure promoting the individual Group companies of Carle & Montanari-OPM and CM FIMA.

Sacmi acquired Carle & Montanari and its four business units; Process and Moulding, Primary Packaging, Secondary Packaging, and Wrapping in 2002 (Carle & Montanari-OPM was the result of the merger between Carle & Montanari  and OPM) and CM FIMA was the result of a merger between Carle & Montanari Wrapping System and FIMA in 2012.

In the food sector, Sacmi manufactures complete lines for chocolate, cocoa processing, wrapping machines, chocolate moulding, primary packaging and secondary packaging.

As part of the restructure, Carle & Montanari will operate the Process & Moulding business unit, and along with FIMA, the Wrapping business unit. OPM will operate the Primary and Secondary Packaging business unit.

"Europe has always been one of our key markets. A few months ago, our Packaging & Chocolate division opened a branch in Poland with the task of providing professional consulting, technical and logistics support for all the customers in the area: territory of Poland, the Baltic States (Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia), Czech Republic and Slovakia," said Rocco Furone, business director, primary packaging, Sacmi.

"We also look at Industry 4.0 principles: where machines can offer predictive maintenance, monitoring of individual machines, plants or multiple interconnected plants, and development of advanced scheduling functions that can be managed via a direct interface with the customer's ERP."

Carle & Montanari-OPM and CM FIMA will be present at ProSweets exhibiting Vpack 2 CDU/CFU, a wrapping machine which can wrap small chocolate balls or small eggs in a double twist or other style.

For chocolate preparation, it will showcase Alpha 1, a small horizontal conching machine with a single agitator shaft and a load capacity batch of 1000 kg, suitable for final conching of the refined mass.

The Alpha 1 belongs to the Nano Chocoline, a small line for chocolate preparation, for small-medium chocolate manufacturers, industrial confectioners and in general, for those who need to produce small batches with high quality.

This mini-line, which can produce up to 250/300 kg/h has the same features as a large modern production line and consists of: the Mixer MTE-250, designed to homogeneously mix the solid and liquid raw materials for the production of chocolate, compound and cream masses, the first stage refiner HCP 303 and the second stage refiner HFI 306, both with 3 refining rolls.

Temperer machines

Sacmi Packaging & Chocolate will also exhibit the vertical temperer machines BETA X1, the for extreme flexibility in tempering chocolate, compound and fatty or spread creams: the BETA X series for 10% to 100% of its nominal flow rate and Smart Temp, a patent pending feature, where all machine parameters and sectors are automatically adjusted according to the chocolate flow rate.

This will bring more flexibility in the traditional tempering process with huge energy saving, especially with usage of Fast-Shell or similar cold punch technology (i.e. Frozen Cone, Cold Stamp, etc).

Available in three sizes, BETA X1, X2 and X4, the BETA series has a capacity of 100kg to 4000kg/h.
