Hershey Foods Corporation has introduced Hershey's Kisses rich dark chocolates, the first permanent addition to the brand in nearly 10 years. To promote the event, the company commissioned a survey examining the opinions of chocolate lovers.

According to Hershey, the survey of 1,009 Americans showed that personality characteristics most associated with a rich dark chocolate personality are classy (39 per cent), sophisticated (35 per cent ) and elegant (35 per cent). The personality characteristics most associated with a milk chocolate kind of personality are sweet (56 per cent ), friendly (43 per cent) and playful (37 per cent).

Almost one-third of chocolate enthusiasts prefer rich dark chocolate over milk chocolate. In addition, 69 per cent of Americans surveyed agreed that rich dark chocolate is seen as an indulgence.

"Dark chocolate has always been associated as the flavour of choice for the sophisticated palate so it's interesting to see how people differentiate between the `rich dark chocolate personality' and the `milk chocolate personality,'" said Don Gates, Hershey's Kisses director.

"Nevertheless, dark chocolate fans have spoken and Hershey Foods is now able to meet the growing demand of the consumers who prefer dark chocolate by welcoming Kisses Rich Dark Chocolates into our Hershey's Kisses family."

Wrapped in a dark purple foil with a plume that reads Dark, Hershey's Kisses Rich Dark Chocolates have the same shape and appearance as regular Hershey's Kisses brand chocolates. The new product will appear on shelves across the US in August.

Hershey Foods Corporation is the leading North American manufacturer of chocolate and non-chocolate confectionery. Some of the company's most popular products include Hershey's milk chocolate, Hershey's Kisses and Reese's peanut butter cups.
